The local Christmas for Vets organization, now in its sixth year, will be hanging wreaths on all veterans’ gravesites on Saturday, Dec.

5. Volunteers are needed to help with this annual recognition of veterans.

There are 414 veterans to be recognized in eight local cemeteries, including Pequot Lakes City Cemetery, Our Saviors Lutheran, Kedron, Stony Brook, Jenkins City Cemetery, Jenkins Township Norwood Cemetery, Maple Hill and Pleasant Hill.

Volunteers are asked to meet in the parking lot behind Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes at 11:30 a.m., where they will be instructed in the wreath hanging, and assigned to a section in the city cemeteries with a team leader. The rural cemeteries have previously been assigned volunteer coordinators.

The annual cost of the wreath is $15. Local businesses and families are asked to contribute to the cost, but additional funding is needed to insure every veteran is not forgotten.

If anyone knows of a veteran in any of the listed local cemeteries who does not have family, they are encouraged to consider donating.

Contributions can be sent to Christmas for Vets, 31018 Rasmussen Road, #205, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472, and those interested can call 568-4488 or 218-831-1045 for more information.
